Festival 'Perekhod', Kaluga
Public Sector / Sponsor, Kaluga, 2025
Context
Kaluga needed a new format for an urban festival.
What we did
We created a rhizomatic structure of courtyard-planets and murals.
Result
7 murals and new audiences for local businesses.
- 7 murals on city streets
- 3 courtyard-planets
- 6 acts in the sound programme
Risks we removed
- Intimate courtyards instead of one big venue, residents take part rather than watch
- Local business gained new audiences, giving the festival allies in the city
- The murals stayed on the streets after the festival and keep working for the city
About the project
Kaluga was transformed into an open-air city-gallery. Instead of a single central event, we proposed a rhizomatic structure of interconnected points, a system of micro-spaces linked by unified navigation and visual codes. The 2025 theme 'Space Settlement' explores the transition from ordinary urban perception to awareness of the city as a living harmonious organism.
Details
Small spaces strategy. The intimate scale of courtyards erases the boundary between participants and observers. Three courtyard-planets 'Sputnik', 'Comet', 'Solaris' and a trolleybus with a NOOTK mural as the Milky Way between them. Misha Most and Yulia Agenosova created a portrait of Chizhevsky. Andrey Berger created 'Gravitational Threshold'. Aesthetics Group realized 'Vertical'. STFNV created the optical illusion 'Staircase'.
Outcomes
7 murals on city streets. Local businesses gained new audiences. Theatrical promenade, cosmic expeditions through courtyards, interactive laboratories and educational program.
